One of my favorite parables that Jesus told is found in Matthew 13:44:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field (NIV).”
One Christian in history who took that parable to heart was William Borden who gave up a life of tremendous family wealth in the early 1900s to pursue evangelism.
After his decision to spread the gospel overseas, family and friends told Borden he was throwing his life of luxury away. That he was making a mistake.
But after Borden found the treasure in the field, there was no turning back, “no reserve, no retreat.”
The world and culture tug at us with all kinds of promises and riches.
At the end of our lives, however, what decisions do we make and what things will we pursue that matter for all eternity?
There is no greater question that we must answer. And we must follow the lead and example of William Borden and so many other men and women of the faith.
May God bless you!
